EngageNudge Intelligence

Notification Respect Index

We subscribe as ordinary users on our own devices and publish what we observe: notifications per day, timing, repetitiveness, preference control, unsubscribe paths, and tonality. Numbers create the debate. We never name "spammers".

Methodology (v1)

Ordinary-user conditions

Real browsers, real permission grants, no subscriber PII. Each site is observed under the same device profile documented in the report.

Published with every report

Sample size, collection window, scoring rubric, and limitations ship alongside the data, never marketing hype without method.

One market per wave

v1 is Sweden / Swedish / news publishers. We expand to new markets only after this first report holds up to scrutiny.

Neutral site labels

Pilot reports use Publisher 1–8. Factual frequency counts only, no spam labels, no brand shaming.

What we measure

  • Notifications per day
  • Send timing (local hour distribution)
  • Repetitiveness (same-topic clusters)
  • Preference control visibility
  • Unsubscribe / revoke path clarity
  • Tonality (human rubric)
  • Observed relevance (title/section alignment)

What we do not do

We do not collect personal data in the observation setup. We do not publish browser-behavior claims without a cited public source. We do not call anyone a spammer. The index is behavioral data, not moral judgment.

Know when to nudge.

Know when a notification is worth sending.

The useful question is who should not get this one.
