The argument you cannot win
Every journalist wants their story pushed. Fair. Without a ledger, volume wins the meeting.
Two pictures of the same day
In a newsroom the day is a pile of stories. Each one has an author who would like it pushed. Traffic is the job. I am not going to moralize that. I have sat on that side of the table too.
On the other side of the same day someone is looking at the subscriber graph. Most weeks it is down. Except when Discover hides it. CTR on yesterday's send is fine. The graph does not care.
Those two pictures do not meet. The first one has a metric the tool loves. The second one has a feeling and a spreadsheet export.
I lost that meeting
I wanted fewer, better sends. I sounded like I was slowing people down. Volume is concrete. Restraint is a speech. Without a line you can screenshot, the speech loses.
The line I wanted was ugly and specific. This send got you the clicks. It cost you these subscribers. A holdout would have done this. I looked for a product that wrote that down. I found tools that were very good at composing the next blast.
The person is already in the building
I keep meeting the same role. Audience owner, CTO, a growth lead who has been there long enough to be tired. They already believe in restraint. They cannot win Tuesday's standup.
Incumbents surface the argument for sending. They hide the cost of sending. That is not a conspiracy. CTR is easy to ship. Churn cost is not.
I am not going to tell you EngageNudge already drops that screenshot on your desk. Some of the measurement is there. The full ledger is the job. If you recognize the meeting, you do not need a demo to know whether this is for you. You need to know someone else sat in it and got annoyed enough to start building.
